Our History

PBR started in October of 1944 by brothers, Watt and Charlie Powell (Jerry Powell's father and uncle), PBR was a vision of Charlie Powell. In working for someone else, he had gained much experience and developed a relationship with many homeowners. With the help of his brother, Powell Brothers Roofing began. At that time the business was operated out of his home. Through the years, PBR has employed many family members and friends. In 1976, Watt retired and his oldest son, Roy, began to manage the office and his other son, Jerry, managed the outside operations. Now, years later, PBR operates out of a warehouse and a business office located on Stage Hills Blvd., in Bartlett. Jerry Powell and his son, Charles, are currently officers of PBR and have the same experience, dedication and commitment as when the company began over 60 years ago.

Our Family

	Charles Powell, President, has over 20 years of roofing experience. He began his employment with PBR in 1987, right after high school, as a clean-up helper. By working closely with his dad and brother, he gained much experience in applying residential and commercial roof systems. Before long he was promoted and was in charge of his own crew. In 1993, when his Uncle Roy retired, he was asked to manage the office. Today, he oversees the inside operations of PBR and is responsible for all quotes and estimates.
	Jerry Powell, Vice President, has over 50 years of roofing experience. Since the late 1950's he has worked in evaluating, installing and repairing roof systems. He started as a simple roofer after high school, working in the summers helping his uncle Charlie. In the 1960's, he went to work for Chris Fiedler Roofing Company and was promoted to a journeyman roofer. Then in 1964, he began his fulltime employment with PBR. Today, he is still running and repairing leaks, measuring roofs for estimates. and oversee the overall outside operations of the company to ensure customer satisfaction.
	Shone Benson, Job Superintendent, has over 14 years of roofing experience. He is also a long time family friend. Living beside the warehouse, as a young boy, he visited the Powell's quite often. He helped Roy Powell lock the gates to the warehouse and was promised when he was old enough he would have a job. In 1993 when he was old enough to work, PBR hired him as a clean-up helper. Since then he has gained much experience in residential and commercial roofing applications. Today, he is responsible for managing all crews and is the superintendent over all jobs.
